It was a thrilling weekend from 12 to 14 July 2013 while the Southern Highlands Writers’ Festival was held. I Can Read was invited to deliver a talk about reading… and what a turnout! Tony Earnshaw spoke for 40 minutes about the reading journey to a group of educationalists, parents and the media. Other highlights of the Writers’ Festival included the Children’s Day where well-known authors conducted workshops and the I Can Read Bear made his appearance, much to the delight of children and adults! (A shot of him below with the organisers of the Festival, Michaela and Kylie). A fantastic three-day event where writers, readers, teachers, parents and all lovers of the English language gathered; the magnificent dinner on Saturday night at the Berkelouw Book Barn with Richard Glover and around 200 guests, was a testimony to Michaela’s dedication to literacy. The I Can Read System teaches all aspects of English and particularly encourages writers to explore their talents, with guidance from qualified teachers who respect and develop the imagination which all writers have in abundance.
